<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to view video-recorded programs, anytime and anywhere. <P>SOLUTION: This system comprises a recorder 100 for recording/playing back contents provided from the outside, and a portable player 400 connected to the recorder 100 via a network 300. Upon receiving a request for playing back the contents from the player 400, the recorder 100 transmits the data indicating the content meeting the request to the player 400. The player 400 selects a target content from the data transmitted and requests the recorder 100 to transmit the data, indicating the selected content to own apparatus.
