A hybrid construction machine comprises a control unit (60) composed of a power distributing section (60-8) and an output condition calculating section (60-9). The output condition calculating section (60-9) calculates a storage battery output preset value determined according to the state of charge of a storage battery (58), an engine output preset value determined according to the rotational speed of an engine (50), a hydraulic load required value indicating the power required by a hydraulic generator and an electric load required value indicating the electric power required by an electric drive unit. The power distributing section (60-8) determines the output values of the electric drive unit and the hydraulic drive unit according to the calculated output condition.
