The method involves providing a regression function, where the regression function comprises a regression factor i.e. lambda regulation variable. The regression factor is determined, and a value of the regression function is calculated for a driving cycle. A fuel pressure sensor is determined as defective when the value of the regression function exceeds a predetermined threshold value, where the threshold value of the regression function is a limit value for the defective sensor. The value of the regression function is determined in dependence of a load-dependent variable. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining a defective pressure sensor in a vehicle.
