PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for automatically operating a forging-press machine by which in the case of automatically operating the forging-press machine, a requested forging size can be obtained by performing only one time of condition-setting operation, and the improvement of the forging work efficiency can be achieved. SOLUTION: In the automatic operating method for forging-press machine 1, a rolling draft X and rolling speed V of an upper anvil 6, are respectively set to suitable values, and after setting a desired forging size, the forging is started by shifting the upper anvil 6 in the direction approached to a lower anvil 3. Then, at the time point when the upper anvil 6 is contacted with a workpiece W and anyone of the rolling draft X and the rolling speed V, is reached to the respective setting value, the upper anvil 6 is once shifted to the separating direction from the lower anvil 3 and successively, the forging is restarted by shifting the upper anvil 6 in the approaching direction to the lower anvil 3, and the approaching/separating movement of the upper anvil 6 to the lower anvil 3, is repeatedly performed until the forged size reaches the setting value.
