An automatic calibrating apparatus for sewing stitch width of a sewing machine and a method thereof are provided to offer a place value amending a sewing direction in advance according to change of the stitch width. An automatic calibrating apparatus for sewing stitch width of a sewing machine includes the followings: an input part(100) inputting a direction amending value and a using command; a control part(110) controlling a backstitch with the direction amending value after converting a stitch width value to a digital signal; a table part(120) managing and searching the direction amending value corresponding to the stitch width value; a solenoid part(130) changing a sewing direction; a sewing part(140) sewing textile with control of the control part; and a stitch input part(150) inputting the stitch width value.
