PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a blooming phenomenon when high luminance image pickup is performed with a simple structure by preventing lowering of a saturated signal amount and an increase of power consumption without increasing the number of driving pulse signals. SOLUTION: In a solid imaging element 100 provided with a photoelectric transducer 71, a vertical charge transfer part 73, a horizontal charge transfer part 75, a horizontal drain part 81 for removing an unnecessary signal charge from the horizontal charge transfer part 75, and a horizontal drain gate part 83 for setting overflow barrier height, a signal applied to the horizontal drain gate part 83 is set to a signal of voltage forming a potential well in the vertical charge transfer part 73 out of charge transfer pulse signals to be applied to the vertical charge transfer part 73 with respect to at least a part of a horizontal blanking period and set to a signal of voltage by which the overflow barrier height for blocking a potential movement between the horizontal charge transfer part 75 and the horizontal drain part 81 among charge transfer pulse signals out of the charge transfer pulse signals with respect to a horizontal transfer period.
