PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing lactic acid, which totally reduces a cost throughout a long-term fermentation, prolongs a further fermentation time and effectively improves productivity of lactic acid in a continuous fermentation method for producing lactic acid using a microorganism. SOLUTION: The method for producing lactic acid, which carries out a stable continuous fermentation at a low cost in high productivity, includes separating a fermentation culture liquid into a filtrate and an unfiltered liquid by a separation membrane, recovering lactic acid being a desired fermentation product from the filtrate, and retaining or refluxing the unfiltered liquid in the fermentation culture liquid, reducing a total amino acid concentration in a fermentation raw material and using a natural biomass so as to totally reduce a cost, to prolong a further fermentation time and to effectively improve productivity of lactic acid throughout a stable long-term fermentation.
