PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-absorbing quick-drying polyester undrawn fiber that has excellent water-absorbing/quick-drying properties and fastness to washing and excellent dyeing fastness and fibrillation resistance. SOLUTION: The water-absorbing quick-drying polyester undrawn fiber having excellent water absorption properties and fastness to washing and excellent dyeing fastness and fibrillation resistance is obtained by making a specific polyester into a polyester undrawn fiber having a sectional shape of the single fiber of W cross section and subjecting the fiber to an alkali reduction treatment so that groove-like micropores in parallel with a fiber axis direction and grooves continuous along the recessed part of the fiber cross section are simultaneously formed on the fiber surface.
