PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stamping device capable of reliably detecting any improper stamping. SOLUTION: The stamping device comprises a plurality of stamping punches 11 whose lengths in the axial direction are all different from one another, a punch holder 12 for holding the plurality of stamping punches 11 arrayed in a row in the direction orthogonal to the axis, a character selection actuator 13 for guiding the designated stamping punch 11 to an impact point by driving the punch holder 12, and an impact cylinder 14 for giving an impact to the stamping punch 11 guided to the impact point toward a cast slab 4. During the stamping, the stroke amount of the impact cylinder 14 is detected, the stamping punch 11 which is actually hit according to the stroke amount is specified, and it is diagnosed that the stamping punch 11 guided to the impact point is improper when the designated stamping punch 11 is not matched with the actually hit stamping punch 11.
