PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passbook handling device that allows printing action to be continued even in the event that a wire of a print head is broken. SOLUTION: The breaking of a wire of a print head that the passbook handling device has is detected based on either the result of reading of a print pattern or visual operation by an operator. Thereafter, based on the print pattern, it is detected at which position of the print head the wire has been broken. A determination is made as to whether or not the wire broken can be replaced by another wire. A replacement wire is selected and used in place of the broken wire to continue a printing process.
