OPTICAL FILM, POLARIZING PLATE, AND IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film excellent in optical characteristics such as a high transmittance to visible light and small birefringence, excellent also in moisture permeability and having excellent ultraviolet absorptivity, a polarizing plate using the optical film, and an image display device using the polarizing plate.

SOLUTION: The optical film for a protective film of a polarizer comprises a polypropylene-based resin mixture prepared by blending a polypropylene-based resin as a principal component synthesized with a metallocene catalyst and having a melt flow rate (MFR; a measured value under the conditions of 230°C and 2.16 kg load based on JIS K7210) of ≥20 g/10 min with an ultraviolet absorbing metal oxide having an average particle diameter of 5-90 nm and a sorbitol-based additive, wherein the content of the ultraviolet absorbing metal oxide is 0.08-5.5 mass% relative to the amount of the polypropylene-based resin mixture, and the content of the sorbitol-based additive is 0.03-0.5 mass% relative to the amount of the polypropylene-based resin mixture. The polarizing plate is obtained by forming the optical film on at least one surface of a polarizer. The image display device uses the polarizing plate.
