<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently detect a PBN (Provider Backbone Network) or PBBN (Provider Backbone Bridge Network) to which a destination address DA belongs. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of backbone networks PBBN to which local networks PBN are respectively connected are connected to each other. A PBN server having a database storing a MAC address of an apparatus belonging to each PBN connected to each PBBN is connected to the PBBN. Respective PBN servers are connected to each other so as to constantly exchange information, and have information of MAC addresses belonging to other PBBNs. A PBN server transmits a PBN or PBBN to which the PBN server belongs when receiving an inquiry about the destination address DA.
