PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain miniaturization of an actuator and efficient drive when valve lift amounts of a plurality of cylinders are collectively controlled. SOLUTION: The V8 type internal combustion engine 10 is provided with a left bank 12 in which a cam nose interval of #5 and #7 cylinders is set to the minimum; and a right bank 14 in which a cam nose interval between #4 and #8 cylinders is set to the minimum. ECU 50 controls valve trains 68 of the respective cylinders in every bank by motors 60, 62. Further, ECU 50 corrects ununiformness of an application angle between the respective cylinders in every cylinder based on the previously stored error data. At this time, ECU 50 varies a correction period according to the cam nose interval between the cylinder, i.e., between an object cylinder to be corrected and the cylinder just before it. Thereby, an action speed of the motors 60, 62 driven for dispersion correction can be suppressed between the cylinders having the narrow cam nose interval. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
