<p>A blue light-emitting phosphor is provided to ensure high luminescent brightness by excitation of vacuum ultraviolet of wavelength 172 nm suitable for xenon molecule ray and to be used as a blue emitting phosphor. A blue light-emitting phosphor has a diopside crystal structure and a composition of MeMgSi2O6 : Eu^(2+), Me is at least one alkaline-earth metal element selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr and Ba. In the blue emitting phosphor, the surface is coated with silicon dioxide layer having thickness of 2~20 nm. A method for manufacturing the blue light-emitting phosphor comprises the steps of: mixing the blue emitting phosphor particles, hydrolysable silicon compound and water in alcohol solvent; performing hydrolytic condensation of the hydrolysable silicon compound, attaching the silicon-containing compound on the surface of phosphor particles to obtain the silicon-containing compound layer-attached phosphor particles; and firing the silicon-containing compound layer-attached phosphor particles.</p> |
