692,259. Cutting-out presses. STANGEL, A., and GAMBLE, H. Nov. 21, 1950. [Nov. 23, 1949] No. 29996/49. Class 31 (i). [Also in Group XVII] In a press tool of the kind which cuts a cruciform blank from a flat sheet and folds the side wall portions of the blank against the sides of a former in one operation, the male cutters 14, Fig. 4, which engage the cut-out portions 51, Fig. 8, of the blank, are carried by the upper portion of the press, and the cut-out portions fall clear of the press through holes 15, Fig. 5, in the base of its lower portion. The male cutters are mounted on a reciprocating plate 12 which presses the blank against a fixed former 11. The female cutters 20 Fig. 5, are mounted on a spring plate 21 and are depressed by stripper members 17 as the plate 12 descends. Folders 13 push down the side wall portions against the former, the strippers 17 removing the formed box as the plate 12 ascends. In a modification, Fig. 1, the former 1 reciprocates relative to a lower fixed plate 2 and fixed folders 3 surround the plate, their adjacent edges forming the female cutters. The male cutters 4 reciprocate with the former 1 while the strippers 7 are fixed and are carried on either side of the plate 2. Heaters 8 are provided and members 44 position the blank during cutting. |
