METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR QUANTIZATION ENCODING AND DE-QUANTIZATION DECODING USING TRELLIS

A method and an apparatus for quantization encoding and de-quantization decoding using a trellis are provided to perform quantization encoding and de-quantization decoding by using a new index by classifying a quantization level with allocated coset and allocating the index. Indexes are restored by de-multiplexing a bit stream transmitted from a coding unit and performing the entropy decoding(1600). The cosets included in the restored index are detected in a TCQ(Trellis Coded Quantization) codebook(1610). The coset coinciding with coset allocated to a branch connecting the current state and the next state is detected among the detected coset in an above stage(1620). The de-quantization is performed by detecting a quantization level corresponding to the coset detected among the quantization levels included in the restored index(1630).
