PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deposition material for a protection film and the protection film that reduce discharge voltage of a plasma display panel enhancing Xe density in a discharge gas at≥10% in order to raise light-emitting efficiency and can easily handle. SOLUTION: The deposition material for the protection film of a plasma display panel contains a rare-earth element of 0.3-0.6 mol% against Mg, and the Xe density in the discharge gas wherein MgO purity is≥99 mol% is≥10%. In the protection film of a plasma display panel, the Xe density in the discharge gas made of MgO containing a rare-earth element of 0.7-1.6 mol% is≥10%. Ce is preferable as a rare-earth element.
