The method involves providing a component i.e. bumper, which is made by a casting process. A sensor is arranged in a forming tool for a plastic component. Plastic material is brought into the forming tool for forming the plastic component. The sensor is partailly casted in the plastic component, where the sensor is fixed by producing low pressure. The sensor is provided with an adhesive layer. A sensor strip and an optical fiber strip (5) are used for forming the plastic component, where the sensor is formed as the optical fiber strip. The sensor is fixed in the forming tool. An independent claim is also included for a bumper for a motor vehicle, comprising a plastic component and a sensor.
