AGENT FOR REDUCING INTESTINAL TOXIC BACTERIUM AND FOOD OR PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATION COMPRISING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent for reducing an intestinal toxic bacterium, having new effects of reduction in intestinal pH, reduction in intestinal ammonia concentration, reduction in intestinal putrefaction product concentration, promotion of intestinal bifidobacterium production and amelioration of chapped skin.

SOLUTION: The agent for reducing the intestinal toxic bacterium comprises a pulverized product or an extract of a plant of the genus Salacia. Preferably the agent for reducing an intestinal toxic bacterium exhibits activity having 50% inhibition concentration (IC50 value) of sucrase of ≥50 μg/mL and ≤1,000 μg/mL. Preferably the agent for reducing an intestinal toxic bacterium further contains a tea extract containing catechin and polyphenols or an oolong tea extract.
