PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article transporting device arranged so that a cutoff drive shaft etc. capable of rising and falling can be located accurately in a simple construction, whereby a running carriage is allowed to move smoothly between the drive shaft etc. on the stationary side and a cutoff portion of drive shaft etc. and the durability of the driving means of an elevator device can be enhanced. SOLUTION: Part of the drive shaft 2 along a transport path and a running rail 1a is cut off from the other part, and the cutoff shafts (2' and 1a') are attached to a rising/sinking element elevated and sunk by an elevator device, and an appropriate fixed piece 13 in the vicinity of the rising/sinking element is furnished with a locating means 39 to heave the rising/sinking element to the reference position forcedly when the rising/sinking element lies in the position set off downward from the reference position where the cutoff drive shaft 2' and other drive shaft 2 are in alignment.
