PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method in which a processing speed is high, and capable of reducing a circuit area and costs. SOLUTION: When interpolation value P of an intensity component is calculated, an interpolation processing unit 223 calculates intermediate values P1 to P4 based on 16 pieces of image data P<SB>11</SB>to P<SB>44</SB>and a weighting factor received from a factor unit 224. An output data control unit 225 calculates the interpolation value P by adding the intermediate values P1 to P4. When interpolation values PA, PB of color difference components are calculated, the interpolation processing unit 223 calculates intermediate values P1 to P4 based on 4 pieces of Cb data PA<SB>22</SB>to PA<SB>33</SB>, 4 pieces of Cr data PB<SB>22</SB>to PB<SB>33</SB>, 8 pieces of zero data, and the weighting factor received from the factor unit 224, while the output data control unit 225 calculates the interpolation value PA by adding the intermediate values P1, P2, and calculates the interpolation value PB by adding the intermediate values P3, P4.
