PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger capable of narrowing a width of an entire header tank. SOLUTION: The header tanks 2, 3 of a gas cooler 1 employing this heat exchanger are composed of tank bodies 7 and plates 8 for pipe connection with the tank bodies 7, respectively. Cuts 33 for fitting engagement pieces are formed over the whole thickness on front and back both side faces of the tank body 7. A width of the plate 8 for pipe connection is equal to a width of the tank body 7. Front and back both side edges of the plate 8 for pipe connection are provided with the engagement pieces 21 composed of outer projecting portions 21a projecting outward in the longitudinal direction of a heat exchange tube 4 and fitted into the cut 33 for fitting the engagement piece of the tank body 7, and a bent portion 21b formed by bending tips of the outer projecting portions 21a inward in the longitudinal direction, and engaged with an outer face of the tank body 7.
