PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inhibiting matrix degrading metalloproteinase and provide a preventive treatment for the matrix metalloproteinase dependent conditions in mammals. SOLUTION: The compounds of formula (I) (wherein R represents OH or NHOH; R1represents hydrogen, optionally substituted lower alkyl, aryl-lower alkyl, or the like; R2represents biarylsulfonyl, or the like; R3represents hydrogen, optionally substituted lower alkyl, or the like; R4and R5each represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, or the like; m is 0, 1, 2, or 3); pharmaceutically acceptable prodrug derivatives thereof; phamaceutically acceptable salts thereof; and use of phamaceutical compositions comprising its salt are provided.
