PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that takes measures against a produced gas from an insulating film which causes problems when a liquid crystal drop sealing system is employed and improves sealing property of a seal material. SOLUTION: Disclosed is the liquid crystal display device comprising a first substrate having a pixel electrode constituting a pixel on a liquid-crystal-side surface, a second substrate SUB2 which has a light shield film BM, a color filter FIL, an alignment film ORI2, and an insulating film INL on a liquid-crystal-side surface, the annular seal material SL which does not have a liquid crystal sealing opening for fixing the first substrate and the second substrate SUB2, and charged liquid crystal, wherein the light shield film BM is formed of a metal film, the insulating film INL is formed overlapping the light shield film BM outside a display region, and the seal material SL is formed on the insulating film INL, the height of the insulating film INL being set to≥5 times as large as the height of the alignment film ORI2 on the basis of a surface of an underlayer where the orientation film ORI2 is formed.
