The laser beam (2) is moved and/or tilted with respect to the workpiece (3) by movements of the laser head (1) and/or its optics. Gas from a process gas nozzle (6) together with the laser beam, are incident on the welding region (9). In a novel approach, during operations on the workpiece, a processing region is flushed with gas by the process gas nozzle, which is afterwards moved and used to flush another region with the gas. The nozzle is spaced preferably 30-120 cm above the workpiece. The nozzle is moved along a path. At least some the parameters used to steer the laser beam are used in addition, to move the process gas nozzle. The working region is flushed with gas before and/or during laser beam processing. The process gas is argon, helium, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen and/or hydrogen. The workpiece can be moved during laser processing. The extension of the nozzle central axis intersects a straight line in the direction of the laser beam, ahead of its incidence on the workpiece, at an angle of 0[deg] -45[deg] . The process gas nozzle and the unit deflecting the laser beam are spaced apart. The spacing is preferably 5-30 cm. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR corresponding equipment.
|
