PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage system, which constructs a redundant multipath for hot-swap of firmware. SOLUTION: The storage system includes a host device and a storage device connected to the host device through multiple paths and configured to perform the hot-swap of firmware. The host device generates and sends an inquiry command to ask whether to allow firmware exchange. On receiving the command, the storage device generates information about whether to allow firmware exchange in a control unit connected to a path where the command is received, as response information to the inquiry command and sends the generated information to the host device. The host device determines whether to allow firmware exchange in accordance with the received response information and then generates information about multiple paths with the storage device when its exchange is allowed.
