PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic system and method for forming a spectral Doppler image by forming a three-dimensional ultrasonic image of a subject, and setting at least a single sample volume consisting of a three-dimensional figure in the three-dimensional ultrasonic image. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic system is provided with an image processing section operating to form at least a single ultrasonic image based on an ultrasonic signal reflected from a subject, an input section operating to receive an input of a setting command, and a control section responding to the setting command and operating to output a first control signal for setting the at least single predetermined sample volume in the three-dimensional ultrasonic image, wherein the image processing section responds to the first control signal and formes at least a single spectral Doppler image applicable to the sample volume based on the ultrasonic signal reflected from the subject.
