A non-metallic composite annular component 12 comprises a central bore and a sleeve 52, 53 inserted into the central bore 50, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the composite annular component being equal to or less than that of the insert. Ideally the annular component is a composite stator vane array for a compressor. The sleeve insert 52, 53 may be metallic (eg., nickel-iron alloy), or a non-metallic composite different to that of the stator. The composite stator is preferably made from an organic matrix material such as Bismaleimide / aramid / carbon fibres in resin. The sleeve of the stator is preferably mounted on a support 14 which is mounted to bearings 18, 20 on a shaft of a compressor / gas turbine. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the support is preferably greater than that of the sleeve. The stator may be located in the compressor stage of a gas turbine engine. |
