A method for changing the FA state of a terminal in a broadband wireless access system is provided to change one of secondary FAs using pFA(primary FA) While the base station uses the terminal and plurality of FAs. An FA(File Assignment) changing a state is determined(S320). The state change request of the determined FA is transmitted to the terminal. The complete response toward the state change request of FA is received from the terminal. The FA in which the status modify completely performs communication with the terminal(S340).
