PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in a line printer, a head holding means is generally a fixed type, and the head itself can not be moved, and when only a specific nozzle is continuously used, even if the moving speed of a printing medium is decreased, or the printing density in the moving direction of the printing medium is decreased, as only the specific nozzle is repeatedly used, and from a view point of the life, the life of the specific nozzle comes earlier than the other nozzle to remarkably lower the life of an actual printing apparatus, and in order to prevent this situation, image data are shifted in advance in the recording width direction so as to disperse the nozzles to be used, but the image position on paper is shifted. SOLUTION: An image is shifted, and at the same time, a carriage itself carrying the recording head is moved in the recording width direction in accordance with the amount of the shift so as not to shift the position of the image on the paper.
