<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve fuel saving and improvement in drivability of a hybrid vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: When the vehicle begins to travel, electric power accumulated in a battery 0 is supplied to a motor generator 2 and an engine 1 is assisted in compensating for acceleration. For the electric power consumed to assist in the acceleration, electric power is charged through exhaust gas power generation during a steady travel. After the charging state of the battery 0 recovers, the electric power generated through the exhaust gas power generation is supplied to a motor generator 2 as it is.
