PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To get contents in consistency with information peculiar to an own device even if the recording, editing, deletion or the like of the contents is performed by the device other than the own device in a recording/reproducing device in which a removable hard disk is mutually used among various device models. SOLUTION: The removable hard disk 20 receives a program 12 for user firmware to the hard disk, which is transmitted from a hard disk recorder 10 through an IDE bus, etc., and stores in an internal nonvolatile memory as a program 22 for user firmware. The hard disk 20 is mounted in another hard disk recorder and when the recording, erasing and editing are carried out according to a recording specification in the other hard disk recorder, the program 22 for user firmware detects the status of the recording, erasing and editing and records on a magnetic disk in the hard disk 20 by creating or changing the own device peculiar information.
