摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively determine the possibility of collision when necessary with an easy method. SOLUTION: A periphery monitoring device 1 is provided with an irradiation part 2, detection part 3 and a determination part 4. The irradiation part 2 produces a plurality of beam spots on the ground in a predetermined arrangement in which the beam spots are aligned laterally by irradiating the traveling direction side of one's own vehicle with a light beam. The detection part 3 detects beam spots within a detection area set ahead in the traveling direction side of one's own vehicle. The determination part 4 determines that there is a possibility of collision between one's own vehicle and the other vehicle only if a plurality of beam spots of the other vehicle are detected in the predetermined arrangement.
