The circuit arrangement has a control unit (15) with a switch network part (12) for conversion of mains voltage of a supply network into supply direct current. A key (6) directly couples the network part with the supply network by a bridge rectifier (7) and an electric switch (16). The network part is coupled with the network by diodes (19, 20) using a bistable contact element (17) e.g. bistable relay, for locking a door of a household appliance, where the diodes are parallel to the rectifier and the switch. The element is controlled in a closed condition of the door by the control unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a household appliance.
