An apparatus and a method for performing a command line interface are provided to easily control a MAC(Media Access Control) module of a head-end cable modem by using a channel coupling function. A MAC managing sub module of a head-end cable modem receives a console command for requesting state information of a head-end cable modem from an operator, and generates a device managing message(S620). A MAC control sub module of the head-end cable modem receives the device managing message(S630). The MAC control sub module of the head-end cable modem receives state information from the MAC module of the head-end cable modem(S640). The MAC managing sub module of the head-end cable modem receives the state information from the MAC control sub module of the head-end cable modem, and generates a console output(S660).
