A character input device and a method thereof are provided to easily input a character by one hand, thereby improving convenience of a user. A character input device comprises a character input unit(100), a character processing unit(200), and a character input control unit(400). The character input control unit is connected to the character input unit and the character processing unit to enable exchange of signals. If an input signal is received from the character input unit, the character input control unit controls the character processing unit to display a character selection window on a display unit(300).
