<p>A refrigeration device (10) having a refrigeration circuit (20) with an expansion valve (13) whose degree of opening is variable. The refrigeration device (10) has valve control means (33) for controlling the degree of opening of the expansion valve (13) by outputting to the expansion valve (13) an opening degree command value not less than a lower limit command value. In a lower limit control condition where the opening degree command value becomes equal to the lower limit control value during a refrigeration cycle, the valve control means (33) performs a first determination operation for determining whether the amount of flow of a refrigerant passing through the expansion valve (13) is excessive, where the determination operation is made based on conditions of the refrigerant between the expansion valve (13) and the suction side of a compressor (11). When the first determination operation determines that the amount of the refrigerant passing through the expansion valve (13) is excessive, the valve control means (33) corrects the lower limit value to a smaller value.</p>
