PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize impact energy absorption characteristics at the time of a secondary collision in a steering device to adjust a telescopic position by an actuator. SOLUTION: When a driver collides with a steering wheel 103 at secondary collision, a shear pin 73 is sheared to release the connection of a drive rod 53 to a coupling flange 7. As a result, an upper column 4 moves to a vehicle body front side together with the coupling flange 7, leaving the drive rod 53. A vehicle body front side end face 75 of the coupling flange 7 is brought in contact with a vehicle body rear side end face 34 of a lower column 3 so as to prevent the coupling flange 7 from moving to the vehicle body front. Thereby, the upper column 4 collapses and moves to the vehicle body front side against friction of a fastening ring 74, the impact energy at the collision of the secondary collision is absorbed by friction force between the upper column 4 and the fastening ring 74 so as to ensure the driver's safety.
