The edge of the seal (1) includes a wedge-shaped incision (E) parallel to its upper- (So) and lower- (Sa) surfaces. The edge profile is a symmetrical Y-shape. Ends of the Y-profile limbs, project out beyond the thickness of the inner annular region of the seal. The seal may depart from circular shape. The V-angle is preferably 90[deg] . The seal is made from steel or stainless steel. The seal and its variants are used to seal the flanged (2, 9) connections of pipes, vessel standpipes and pipe fittings.
