In a slide for slide fasteners of the type having two cooperating fastener stringers each comprising a row of closure members running through a bifurcated guiding channel of the slide, the slide comprising a manipulating member, a bracket, a slide body manufactured separately from the bracket and comprising two slide plates and a locking element provided on the slide body and having a projection projecting into the bifurcated channel for locking engagement in the intervals between the closure members in order to lock the slide against displacement along the rows of closure members, the manipulating member of the slide cooperates with the locking element on three different sides of the slide in such a way that a pull on the member results in movement of the bracket relative to the slide body, which movement retracts the locking element out of engagement with the closure members and out of the guiding channel. In the arrangment shown, upper and lower slide plates 3, 4 of a slide body 1 are provided with T-shaped members 6 and 7 respectively by which a U- shaped bracket 2 is attached to the slide body. The member 6 projects upwardly from a rib 10 extending over the plate 3 to form a forked member 11. A recess 12 in the rib 10 extending to the member 6 and provided with a space 13, houses a T-shaped, pivotally mounted locking member 14, one end 15 of which is provided with a pawl 17 adapted to engage, in the locking position, between the fastener elements. An upper portion 23 of the member 14 engages in a recess 21 in the bracket 2, the opposite lower portion 26 of the member 14 bearing against a projection 22 on the bracket. The slide is movable by means of a tab 27, which may be operated from either the upper or lower side of the slide, the tab being slidably engaged with the bracket 2. In operation, a pull on the tab, in the upper or lower position thereof moves the bracket in the same direction relative to the slide body, to release the locking member 14 against a spring 25, while a pull on the tab in the opposite direction, locates the heel of the tab against the rear wall 30 of the bracket 2 which is thus moved in a direction in which the portion 23 of the member 14 engages the bracket to release the member 14 against the spring 25. |
