PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device maintaining substantially constant luminance even if the ambient temperature is changed. SOLUTION: A first light emitting element 2 and a second light emitting element 3 illuminate a liquid crystal display element 6. A control means 17 successively turns on the first light emitting element 2 and the second light emitting element 3 for each field. A temperature detection means 16 includes a first temperature sensor 8 detecting a temperature in the vicinity of the first light emitting element 2, a second temperature sensor 9 detecting a temperature in the vicinity of the second light emitting element 3, and a third temperature sensor 10 detecting a temperature in the vicinity of the liquid crystal display element 6, and outputs temperature data. The control means 17 controls the emission luminance of the first light emitting element 2 and the emission luminance of the second light emitting element 3 based on the temperature data.
