A supply current is led across switch elements connected into a row, and a light e.g. LED light (L1), to be controlled is operated parallel to the circuit elements. The control element outputs a control signal for controlling the supply current, where the control element switches off the supply current, if the circuit elements are closed. The control element has a monitoring device that monitors operations of the light based on voltages detected by voltage sensors. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is also included for a signal generator for a light signal system, comprising a set of lights. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Light controlling device for a set of lights in a signal generator of a light signal system (all claimed) e.g. traffic light device, which is utilized to indicate information, warning by a light signal, for traffic regulation. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The monitoring device monitors the operations of the light based on the voltages detected by the voltage sensors, thus accurately recognizing failure of a red signal or unintentional switching on yellow or green signal, without expensive construction units. The device is designed in such a manner to minimize requirement of LED lights, thus saving manufacturing costs of the device by reducing number of power packs. The power packs have a large portion of electronics units, so that mean time between failures (MTBF) is increased by reduction of the number of power packs, and hence increasing reliability of a light signal system. The device avoids requirement of a place for holding the power pack in the light, so that the LED lights are compactly arranged.
