PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston for internal combustion engine of simple structure capable of sufficiently enduring every force to be applied to a vertical rib for reinforcing a pin boss and capable of securing sufficient strength and rigidity over the whole of the piston. SOLUTION: In this piston for internal combustion engine, a pair of vertical ribs 35 nearly perpendicular to the center axis Lp of a pin hole for a pin boss 34 are formed in a back surface of a piston top part 31, extending from each of the pair of pin bosses 34 to both sides, and connected to a piston skirt 33 and a pair of lateral ribs 36 parallel with the center axis Lp of the pin hole and connecting the pair of vertical ribs 35 to each other are formed on both sides of the piston pin. A pair of lateral extension ribs 37 are formed to be connected to the piston peripheral wall 32, extending from each of the pair of lateral ribs 36 to both outside between the vertical ribs 35.
