PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing crosslinked butyl rubber foam with a high expansion ratio without causing abnormal foaming. SOLUTION: In this method for producing crosslinked butyl rubber foam, after melting and kneading a composition comprising butyl rubber containing 70 wt.% or more halogenated butyl rubber and a heat decomposition type foaming agent, the composition is molded to produce a foamable molded product, a foamable crosslinked molded product is obtained when the foamable molded product is irradiated with ionizing radiation to be crosslinked, and when the foamable crosslinked molded product is heated to be expanded, the crosslinked butyl rubber foam with density of 0.05-0.2 g/cm<SP>3</SP>is produced.
