PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid treating apparatus and a liquid treatment method which have high reliability and high maintainability and achieve economical removal of suspended matter. SOLUTION: The liquid treating apparatus A for separating the suspended matter 2 from a liquid to be treated 3 containing the suspended matter 2 is equipped with a treating tank 1 for storing the liquid to be treated 3, a feeding flow passage 12 for feeding the liquid to be treated 3 to the treating tank 1, a recovery unit 5 for recovering floating suspended matter 2, a discharge flow passage 11 for discharging the suspended matter 2 from the recovery unit 5 and a discharge valve 6 for opening and closing the discharge flow passage 11. The liquid treating apparatus A discharges the suspended matter 2 recovered by the recovery unit 5 outside the treating tank 1 by opening and closing the discharge valve 6.
