A screw (112-1), which may be used, for example, as a bone screw (112- 1), includes a shaft (112) bearing a thread, the thread having a thread foot (117, 217) and thread crest (116, 200, 300). The thread foot (117, 217) tapers outward along a portion of the shaft, and the thread crest (116, 200, 300) has a uniform width along a length of the shaft (112). A method of making a bone screw (112-1) includes making a series of cuts in a shaft (112) at different pitches to produce a thread having a thread foot (117, 217) and thread crest (116, 200, 300), where the thread foot (117, 217) tapers outward along a portion (600) of the shaft (112); and where the thread crest (116, 200, 300) has a uniform width along a length of the shaft (112). |
