<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize the whole apparatus in a height direction, without hindering the configuration of existing in the upper part of each developer storage unit than when each developer storage unit is arranged side by side in the same direction as the inclination direction of a transfer belt. <P>SOLUTION: Toner cartridges 55M and 55C are provided in an area lower than the extension l of a straight line connecting the center OK of the housing space of the toner cartridge 55K and the center OC of the cross-section of the housing space of the toner cartridge 55C adjacent to the toner cartridge 55K, as shown in Fig.(a), so that a free space SP is formed in the upper area of an intermediate transfer body unit 80 and in a position at least occupying the lower area of the toner cartridge 55C.
