PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify an accurate position of an article efficiently by a simple constitution, in a position detection system for specifying the position of the article by reading a radio tag attached to the article. SOLUTION: The system includes a position storage means, the first storage means and the second storage means, for storing position information and discrimination information of the radio tag becoming incommunicable by a shield, by arranging the shield between the radio tag and an antenna connected to a radio communication device. The system has a position information specification means for specifying the position of the radio tag by correlating each information mutually, and a discrimination information specification means for specifying the whole discrimination information of the radio tag when the shield is positioned out of a communication range of the radio communication device and discrimination information of the shielded radio tag based on discrimination information of the radio tag when the shield is positioned within the communication range. When the shielded radio tag cannot be specified as one body, a transmission output control means controls a transmission output from the radio communication device to a proper value to specify the discrimination information of the radio tag to one information, and to thereby detect the desired position of the radio tag.
