PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge tube lighting device for easily actualizing soft start when turning on burst light control. SOLUTION: The discharge tube lighting device comprises a switching circuit for converting the DC voltage of a DC power supply into AC voltage with on/off operation of switching elements Qp1, Qn1, a discharge tube 3 connected to the secondary coil of a transformer T having a primary coil P connected to the switching circuit for outputting the AC voltage from the secondary coil S, an error amplifier 15 for outputting an error signal regarding a detected value for each of current detecting circuits D1, D2, R3 for detecting an AC output current flowing in the discharge tube, relative to predetermined reference voltage, control circuits 16a, 16b for generating a control signal for on/off operation of each switching element in response to the error signal from the error amplifier to control the AC output current to be a predetermined value, and time sharing signal circuits 13, C6 for generating a time sharing signal to delay a change of a burst light control signal or a time sharing signal that a signal having a predetermined gradient is superimposed on the burst light control signal when each switching element starts on/off operation.
