PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce thickness, weight and manufacturing cost in a liquid crystal display device which can switch a viewing angle. SOLUTION: A first sub pixel 1A having a wide viewing angle and a second sub pixel having a narrow viewing angle are disposed in pairs in each pixel. In the first sub pixel 1A, alignment of liquid crystal molecules M is controlled by an electric field generated between a first common electrode 14 and first pixel electrodes 16A disposed on a first transparent substrate 10. In the second sub pixel 1B, alignment of the liquid crystal molecules M is controlled by an electric field generated between the first common electrode 14 and second pixel electrodes 16B disposed on the first transparent substrate 10 and an electric field generated between the second pixel electrodes 16B and a second common electrode 24 disposed on a second transparent substrate 20.
